Promotional
1. Christmas 2008 (December 2008)
Saturdays in December was a new concept in Oxford City centre to encourage
families to visit and spend some time with us at Christmas. We wanted to
extend the attraction of Oxford over and above a single event night.
We provided entertainment, competition and a helping hand.

2. Covered Market Food Fayre (November 2008)
A two-day food fayre involved local producers, city-based
restaurants, celebrity chefs and Oxford and Cherwell Valley
College's "excellent-rated" hospitality department.

3. Gloucester Green Charity Football Fun Day
(June 2008)
We worked with local traders, Oxford United and John Radcliffe
Hospital Charitable Trust to put on a great charity event at
Gloucester Green in the summer. 16 teams battled for the title
of Human Table Football Champions. Teams included Oxford
United, local businesses, the Police and Jack fm
Eventual winners were the Police, beating Balls of Fury, (a local
business team), in the final.
The event included a charity target shoot competition, stilt
walkers, premiership manager look-a-alikes and other entertainment
and was promoted in partnership with Jack fm.

The event raised a considerable amount for the Childerns Hospital
at John Radcliffe and boosted sales for local retailers, especially
Combibos and the Noodle Bar.
Thanks go to Kenny at Press to Print, Selfy and the team at Jack
fm and PRB and his staff at Oxford United.
4. Video Promotion of Local Businesses (May
2008)
There are all sorts of possibilities for promoting businesses in
the City. Our latest DVD that promotes our BID proposal
demonstrates the potential of raising the profile of our businesses
on-line
5. Independents (February 2008)
OX1 launched a promotional campaign to raise the profile of
our independent traders in the City centre during February school
half-term (18th to 22nd February).
We wanted to highlight the shops and businesses that make Oxford
different and that offer unique gifts and expertise. Over 30
shops agreed to participate, each donating an average of £30 of
vouchers as their contribution to one large prize close to £1000 in
value.
The promotion comprised the following:
- street entertainers and give-aways throughout the week
- prize draw cards for shoppers (cards needed to be stamped in
a shop in each of four locations to enter the prize draw)
- promotional OX1 "red tags" in participating shop windows
- delivery of 36,000 leaflets to Oxfordshire homes promoting
our independent offer
- posters and leaflets and signage information at
park-and-ride sites
- free park-and-ride travel to limited numbers of customers
- promotional activity with foxfm culminating in a live-on-air
prize draw for one lucky entrant
6. Covered Market (November 2007)
OX1 initiated a promotional campaign designed to increase footfall
within the Covered Market over the pre-Christmas trading period.
- We worked with traders and foxfm to create a prize draw
worth over £1000 for one lucky winner. All prizes and
vouchers were donated by businesses within the Covered Market.
Prize draw forms were available in participating stores.
- OX1 designed the promotional campaign and used foxfm to host
the prize draw and to draw the winner live on air. The
campaign included regular live on-air mentions, a promotional
page on the foxfm website and street-based activities.
- OX1 convinced traders to donate chocolates, cakes and
cookies that we then used to persuade members of the public to
visit the market during the campaign week.
- The prize winner won prizes ranging from a Christmas turkey,
tree and cake to hampers, flowers, beef, salmon and vouchers in
most of the other shops selling everything from leather handbags
to shoes and hats.
- The prize draw attracted just short of 1000 entries during
the week – equating to one entry every two minutes of the
campaign.
- The campaign cost OX1 £4500 and was a small example of what
we could achieve with a realistic budget, more manpower and a
desire by businesses to work together to improve our trading
environment and profile with the general public.
