The Network is...:

Our primary aim is to bring together the local Chambers and similar organisations operating in towns across Oxfordshire.

If one phrase sums up what OTCN is working to achieve, it is: "Promoting business in Oxfordshire's towns."

But even that needs help (as we are also involved in Oxford city, its urban centres, and a number of the county's larger villages).

In our work on town centre vitality and partnership building we have come across other phrases that seem to fit the bill.

Those of you involved in partnership working might like Henry Ford's: "Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success."

... and Richard Branson's: "You can spot negative people and stultifying institutions a mile off. Have the courage of your convictions, and ignore them!"

... and when you meet a reluctance to do something for fear of failure, try this:

"Just because it's not perfect, doesn't mean it's not better."

We currently have as members or are developing connections with organisations in Abingdon, Banbury, Bicester, Burford, Carterton, Charlbury, Chipping Norton, Didcot, Eynsham, Faringdon, Goring, Headington, Henley, Kidlington, Monument Park Chalgrove, Oxford, Thame, Wallingford, Wantage, Watlington, Witney, Woodstock, and groups that have members spread across Oxfordshire.

Some are called Chambers; others have taken a different name. A listing is available on our Member Organisations page.

Each operates its own organisation in the way its own members choose. The Network is about connecting those organisations where there is benefit, and involving individual businesses who support the principles of The Network.

Among our aims:
  • To share ideas and best practice.
  • To share experience of common issues that local Chambers and similar groups are tackling in their towns in Oxfordshire.
  • To promote the principle of Town Chambers and similar business groupings.
  • To promote within the Network the activities of each of the partners in case there are common interests, possible links or, at the simplest level, date clashes to be avoided.
  • To engage members of these groups in a more cohesive way in lobbying local authorities and other decision makers.
  • To develop a web portal as a focal point for the activities of the Network partners, linked to the websites of those Town Chambers or business groups that have their own.
