![]() The OTCN OxHoP Challenge 'Everybody counts or nobody counts' ...with thanks for the campaign motto to author Michael Connelly Oxford Homeless Pathways,
www.oxhop.org.uk, is an Oxford charity celebrating 25 years at the heart of services
for homeless people in Oxfordshire. OxHoP started life as the Oxford Night Shelter on Luther Street in 1986.
It is celebrating a journey from the early days as a single converted building offering
'food, warmth and shelter'
at night only, to being a cornerstone operation offering a wide range of resettlement and support services to homeless people. |

This is your chance to support
the only direct access homeless hostel for 25 year olds and over in all of Oxfordshire.Here’s how it works: We’ve listed 10 things that Oxfordshire businesses or their staff could do to support OxHoP. The Challenge is that for each of the 10 we have at least one business volunteering to help. Of course the more we get committed to delivering on each of the 10 the better...but the challenge is that we tick off the 10 at least once! There are different ways to support OxHoP...by offering staff time/skills, or helping with funding, or donating items from the list of needs. Here it is...the OTCN OxHoP Challenge TEN: 1. Nominate - Make OxHoP your ‘charity of the year’. 2. Take the time – at its main hostel, O’Hanlon House, and at its Julian Housing network of houses, OxHoP has regular need for painting, decorating and gardening. It would be great to have volunteers to help. 3. Donate a designer – OxHoP produce annual reports, newsletters and leaflets throughout the year so a donation of designer time would help hugely. 4. Sponsor printing and photocopying – OxHoP estimate that printing costs them around £15,000 per year. We know that’s too big a chunk for one company but any contributions (funding or in kind) that reduce those costs would allow money to be focused more directly on their core work. 5. Work a website – a web specialist to work on a refresh of the OxHoP website and then maintain it with updates would be great right now. 6. Active support – make a donation to support OxHoP Activities e.g. paints, sketch books, HB & coloured pencils; musical instruments (in good working order); books (fiction & non fiction); fishing gear (hooks, floats, lines, rods etc); football & rugby balls; badminton & tennis rackets and balls. 7. Store Support 1 - Bed Linen and Towels You could donate single duvets (fire safety standard only), single fitted bed sheets & duvet covers, pillows & pillow cases, blankets, towels (we need LOTS of these), sleeping bags. 8. Store Support 2 - Food & Household Goods You could donate tinned & dried foods, pots, pans, woks, cutlery &
utensils, kettles, vacuum cleaners, toasters (all in good working condition).9. Store Support 3 - Clothing (male & female) You could donate socks (we need LOTS of these), interview clothes, casual clothes, good quality shoes (especially trainers), hats, gloves & scarves, underwear. 10. Make Space – OxHoP sometimes have large deliveries e.g. furniture which needs to be stored until it goes in O’Hanlon House or one of the Julian Housing properties. It would be great to have free use of storage space in or around Oxford. Can your business or your staff help? Pick your Challenge Number(s) and email christyspenle@oxhop.org.uk or call 01865 262201 or 07769 217603 saying you’d like to help with the OTCN OxHoP Challenge NOW! |

A number of businesses are already working with OxHoP. Here’s what some of those involved had to say... A team from John Lewis has been helping with painting and decorating. One of them, said: "It was fantastic;
the residents were so appreciative. It made me feel grateful for what I do have. It {homelessness} could
happen to any one of us."A group from RM Education helped with gardening and clearing work. Their team leader said: "It was great for the team to work together as we sorted rubbish, weeded, cleared areas of over growth and generally got stuck in. The whole team enjoyed the day, felt we had achieved something, and hope the residents enjoy the gardens we had created." Axis Intermodal Ltd had been looking to support a local charity for a number of months until they came across OxHop: "We feel that they are an extremely worthwhile cause and every penny donated goes directly to the charity. We are very proud to support OxHoP and hope other local businesses will see all the hard work they do and offer their support as well." |
