This joint OTCN-Cherwell District Council pilot initiative is one of the outputs of the Council’s Local Business
Liaison Group. Its key objective is to provide direction and facilitate action for the Council’s proactive
engagement with local businesses with a particular focus on Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). This
objective is based upon the principles of the Small Business Friendly Concordat to which the Council is
signed with a particular focus on the following commitments:
• The encouragement of a diverse and competitive supply market, including small firms, social enterprises,
ethnic minority businesses and voluntary and community sector suppliers.
• To consider the role of SME specialist suppliers in delivering elements of larger contracts and framework agreements.
To date the group has focused on the following:
1. Improving access and information via the ‘Selling to the Council’ pages of its website at
www.cherwell.gov.uk/sellingtothecouncil.
2. Providing working with the Council workshops, particularly focused at SMEs, on a project
basis and at ‘Meet the Buyer’ events.
3. Participation, running and development of ‘Meet the Buyer’ events involving partnership with
the Council’s business development team.
